Algebra II is a continuation and expansion of the concepts introduced in Algebra I. This course deepens students’ understanding of algebraic principles and prepares them for advanced topics in mathematics, including Pre-Calculus and Statistics. Real-world applications, technology integration, and mathematical modeling are emphasized throughout the course to enhance conceptual understanding and relevance. Students will enhance their comprehension of algebraic functions, including linear, quadratic, polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic functions. The course also introduces systems of equations and inequalities, sequences and series, complex numbers, and conic sections.
Course Topics Include:
Linear equations and inequalities in one and two variables
Systems of linear equations and inequalities
Quadratic functions and equations
Complex numbers and their operations
Polynomial functions and factoring techniques
Rational expressions and equations
Radical expressions and functions
Exponential and logarithmic functions
Sequences and series
Introduction to probability and statistics
Data analysis and interpretation
Function transformations and graphing techniques
In the latter part of the course, students will be introduced to fundamental concepts of trigonometry, including:
Angles and their measurement (degrees and radians)
Right triangle trigonometry
Unit circle and trigonometric functions (sine, cosine, tangent)
Graphs of trigonometric functions
Basic trigonometric identities
Solving simple trigonometric equations
A combination of lectures, collaborative group work, hands-on activities, and technology-based tools (e.g., graphing calculators or software) will be used to support various learning styles. Regular assessments, projects, and cumulative reviews ensure mastery of the content
Course Requirements:
The class will use Bob Jones University Press "Algebra 2, 3rd ed." ($71.94). Students need a computer with a camera and microphone for Zoom class capabilities and a graphing calculator. Students should have completed one year of high school algebra. (Affiliate link to purchase text from BJUP here)
Course class times and cost:
Algebra 2 class will be virtual; online at 1:30 pm - 2:45 pm on Mondays and Thursdays. The first class, on Thursday, September 4th, 2025 will be at Covenant Home School Resource Center (CHSRC). The purpose of the first class being in person is for the students to meet their classmates and teacher. Students will also be required to meet in person at CHSRC when there are tests. It is planned that tests will be approximately every 3 weeks or so.
The cost for the course is $95/month. The tuition cost covers all class materials that will be used. CHSRC requires all students that will be at their facility for tests to pay a non-refundable $100 registration fee. (The CHSRC registration fee is $100 per student, regardless of the number of classes taken. This fee supports administrative services and provides student insurance coverage while on campus. Parents will be automatically added to CHSRC’s email list. CHSRC values your privacy and will never sell or share your information.) The class size is limited to a maximum of 15 students.
